After long and careful deliberation, your CDC Board voted
overwhelmingly to dissolve the CDC Political Action Committee. As a
matter of course, and in accordance with our by-laws, the decision
will now rest on the votes of our CDC members. During our October 7
program, the CDC Board will present our decision and place before the
attending, dues-paid members a motion to formally dissolve CDC PAC.

The Columbia Democratic Club has always played an important role in
the local elections process in Howard County. The Board's decision to
dissolve the Political Action Committee will not impact the services
that we provide to the community and to candidates in local
elections. The CDC will continue to hold candidate forums,
fundraisers, and endorsement meetings. The CDC can still produce and
distribute our "blue-ballot" as a service to the community and to the
candidates we support. Without the PAC, we can still hold fundraisers
and we can still make modest financial and effort-based contributions
to the candidates we endorse.

A further review of the rationale and impacts of this decision will be
discussed at the October 7 meeting. The Board anticipates a great
deal of discussion on this topic, so we will be dedicating a
substantial portion of the meeting for this purpose. Please note that
only DUES-PAID CDC members will be able to vote. This will be
determined in a fashion similar to what we use for our endorsement
meetings. If you would like to become a due-paying member of CDC,
