Happy New Year! First, we would like to thank you for all your support over the years. Last year the Columbia Democratic Club held true to our mission to support our community and uphold Democratic ideals. Now it is time to build on our success of the past few years as we move towards the Democratic Primary and the November elections. Once again, we ask you for your support. Your membership in the Columbia Democratic Club will assist in the effort to build on our Democratic majoriteies and win in November. As a CDC member, you can take pride in being part of the thirty-year tradition of promoting core Democratic values and electing Democratic candidates.

A ONE-YEAR MEMBERSHIP for $30 for the first family member and $15 for each additional family members. Seniors (age 65 and older), students, and community members with disabilities and veterans can join for $15 per person.

We are also offering a SPECIAL GUBERNATORIAL FOUR-YEAR MEMBERSHIP for $100 for the first family member and $50 for each additional family members. Seniors (age 65 and older), students, and community members with disabilities and veterans can join for $50 per person.

Canned Food Drive

Columbia Democratic Club would like to thank everyone for their food bank donations. So far, Columbia Democratic Club has donated 115 pounds of canned goods for the Howard County Food Bank.

We don't want to stop now. We have made it our goal to collect 1000 pounds and we are 10% of the way there.

Help us by bringing canned foods and toiletries to support Howard County Residents in need.

Please remember to bring your items to the November Meeting!

HOLD THE DATE – April 19 - CDC Elections 2010 Fundraiser

Come join us on Sunday afternoon, April 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, to hear and question one of Maryland’s and the Nation’s top political commentators, Dr. Tom Schaller. This special event is in support of the Columbia Democratic Club (CDC), as it prepares for 2010 state and local elections. Individual contributions of $25 are respectfully requested. Location of the event is 7135 Minstrel Way, Suite 104, Columbia. Light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Schaller is associate professor of political science at the UMBC. He is an author and a twice-monthly political columnist for the Baltimore Sun. He has appeared at various CDC events the past few years, and for CDC member who have not heard Tom, you are in for a real treat. Dr. Schaller’s comments and political insights often spark discussion and debate, providing much food for thought.

He has also published commentaries in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, The New York Daily News, The American Prospect, Salon, and The New Republic, and has appeared on ABC News, The Colbert Report, MSNBC, National Public Radio’s All Things Considered.

I hope your schedule permits you to join your fellow Democrats for a fun afternoon of political commentary and conversation.

CDC March 11 Program - Howard County Executive KEN ULMAN

CDC will hold our monthly program Wednesday, March 11 starting at
7pm in the Jeffers Hill Neighborhood Center (6030 Tamar Drive).
This months' program will feature Howard County Executive Ken Ulman!

Executive Ulman will address Howard County's economic situation,
challenges, and what we might be able to expect with the new Obama
administration and looking forward to the 2010 local elections.

No July Program - CDC Picnic August 10

Your Columbia Democratic Club will be replacing the usual July program with a Club-sponsored picnic on Sunday, August 10 from 3-5pm!! Our picnic will be at the Centennial Park Pavillion and will be FREE and OPEN TO ALL with donations appreciated. Food, games, and fun will be provided so just bring yourself!

I hope you have a wonderful July and we look forward to seeing you on the 10th!

Reminder - CDC PAC Event - June 22; 2pm

Your CDC Political Action Committee will be hosting a fundraiser featuring Maryland Democratic Party Communications Officer, David Paulson! The event will be held June 22 from 2-5pm at 7135 Minstrel Way, Suite 104.

David Paulson will speak to the nature of our Democratic Party message and will be able to answer questions on a variety of topics including the ongoing Democratic Presidential campaign. By attending and supporting the Columbia Democratic Club, you will have the opportunity to ask questions, become better informed, and interact and network with community leaders, elected officials, and local activists.

CDC PAC Fundraiser - June 22; 2pm

Your CDC Political Action Committee will be hosting a fundraiser featuring Maryland Democratic Party Communications Officer, David Paulson! The event will be held June 22 from 2-5pm at 7135 Minstrel Way, Suite 104.

Prior to serving as the Communications Officer for the State Democratic Party, Mr. Paulson worked in the same capacity for Progressive Maryland. During his tenure with Progressive Maryland, Mr. Paulson also worked for Maryland Victory 2004, the coordinated campaign to elect John Kerry and John Edwards. Paulson is also President of The Mockingbird Company, a public relations, political consulting and media-training firm in Baltimore, MD.

While providing general media and message development consulting and training services to political leaders, grassroots activists, executives, non-profit associations and progressive groups and organizations, Paulson also provides a unique training, public relations and campaign program focused on argument and debate techniques for talk radio. Some of Mr. Paulson's recent clients and campaigns include The Rouse Company, The National Education Association, the Your Next Car alternative energy-auto project, The Better World Campaign, The United Nations Association, and The American Lung Association.

CDC 2007-08 Elections

CDC will hold its annual meeting and elections on Wednesday, May 11, at the Jeffers Hill Neighborhood Center in Columbia, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Elections for the next year's CDC leadership: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and three At-Large Board positions, will be decided.

Mark your calendars: Howard Co. Delegation public hearing scheduled

Dear CDC members:

Mark your calendars for January 11, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. This is when the Howard County State Delegation will hold its public hearing on local bills being introduced during the 2006 session of the Maryland General Assembly. As usual, the meeting will take place in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, where the County Council meets. Newly re-elected Delegate Shane Pendergrass will remain as Chair of the House delegation.

Stay tuned for further details about legislation to be considered, etc.
